Dushanbe Central mosque
Dushanbe • Tajikistan • 780 m
The Central Cathedral Mosque of Dushanbe, named after Imam Abu Hanifa, is the second largest mosque in Central Asia after the Hazrat Sultan Mosque in Astana.
It was inaugurated on June 09, 2023 by the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon together with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who donated part of the funds for the construction of this magnificent complex.
The maximum capacity of the mosque and surrounding areas is 120,000 people, while the mosque itself can accommodate about 25,000 people. The courtyard of the building with its fountain can accommodate 8,000 worshippers.
The complex, spread over 12 hectares, has several prayer halls, a library, a museum, an open courtyard and four minarets 75 meters high.
Its style, design, wall patterns, domes, columns, entrances and all other decorative elements are inspired by ancient Tajik architecture.
Next to it, the head of state initiated the construction of the Islamic Institute of Tajikistan, designed to accommodate about 1,500 students.
