Throughout the history Kyrgyz people have had many artisans especially craftsmen that are famous for creating a unique material made of felt. Felt is also used to make national carpets, which are called shyrdaks. Shyrdak is one of the main every day attributes of the Kyrgyz household. Its use is universal: such carpet can be spread out both in the yurt and just on the grass. It is a very colorful handicraft with laconic color contrasts. The ornament is notable for large patterns. Also there is not less popular work of folk craft-colored thick felt Ala-Kiyiz. It is motley and very close to the Ala-Too Mountains – many-colored mountains.
